We wii visit Edinburgh April 28- May 1. Is there a 3 or 4 day bus/airport tram pass that can be purchased at the airport? Also, what is the best “app” for buses? We will rely almost exclusively on buses for travel while in the city.

I can't answer your first question about the bus/airport tram pass since I took a taxi to my hotel when I arrived in Edinburgh, but I can answer your second question. The Lothian buses app is great! I downloaded it to my iPhone 7 this past September before I left for a conference in Edinburgh. I also pre-purchased bus day tickets (M-tickets). The app shows bus schedules (e.g., which ones are coming to particular stop and how soon before they arrive), can actually track where you are on a map as you ride in the bus, and you can buy tickets/day pass and download them on your phone. I think there was a 10 pound minimum purchase, so I bought 4 days worth. You just show the driver the day pass on your phone when you get on the bus. The nice thing is that you don't have to carry exact change (heavy coins) if you pre-purchase tickets. I would imagine that with the app you could also pre-purchase a tram ticket from the airport to the city center.
