Base for Aberdeenshire/Deeside Castles

I stayed in Ballater one year and was sorry to see this fire had occurred. The visitor center moved to Cairngorm National Park Authority offices in Ballater. The visitor center had interesting info on the area.

I found Ballater to be a great base for exploring castles. I liked the town and stayed in one of the small hotels that is Deeside. I visited Drum Castle, Kildrummy Castle, Craigievar Castle, Corgarff Castle, and Cullerlie Stone circle! I also enjoyed the Knock Gallery and one in Alford.

I like Kildrummy, Drum Castle, and Cullerlie. What are your favorite spots in Aberdeenshire?

Pam, if you consider Aberdeenshire to be the current Aberdeenshire which includes historic Kincardineshire then you have Stonehaven and Dunottar Castle.

Dunottar is one of the Scottish castles and Stonehaven a beautiful historic town.

I would add Fyvie Castle to this list if you have the time. it has a very interesting history and is set in lovely grounds. It is between Aberdeen and Turrif .

Well, I am probably not sure whether I meant Historic or Contemporary, but that's why I through in Deeside. : ) I will admit that I find the contemporary demarcations confusing at times. : ) I was sorry to see about the fire.
