B&Bs in Glasgow - not far from airport

Can anyone provide us with a suggestion for a B&B in Glasgow? We are planning a two night stay before we depart for the US...plan to visit Glasgow for 1.5 days then catch a 10 AM flight so we'd like to be not too far from the airport. Thanks for your ideas! Time is getting short as we leave next week for the UK...staying overnight on Sept 10, 11th in Glasgow at conclusion of our visit.

Hi Maureen,

Downtown is very close to the airport, under 1/2 hour on the shuttle, http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/glasgow/journey_planning/glasgow_shuttle/ Any hotel near the shuttle route will be easy for getting to the airport.

Premier Inn Glasgow City Centre (Buchanan Galleries) Hotel is near Queen Street rail station and that is one place to catch the shuttle. I've not stayed at this Inn, but at several of the chain and been satisfied for a short stay.

I've stayed at the Radisson Blu next to Central rail station. There are shuttle stops within walking distance to that, too. I stayed on points; the Premier Inn would likely be cheaper with paying.

Cheers.

I agree. You don't need to stay at the airport. There is bus that will take you straight there. You can catch it in George Square. I bought tickets at the TI that is right at the stop. The Premiere Inn George Square is a short three blocks from the bus stop. Here's the address of the TI: 170 Buchanan St, Glasgow G1 2LW, United Kingdom.

I have done this and caught a mid morning flight back to the states. Ask what the TI advises, but I agree that it is less than a half hour. I think it might be closer to 20 minutes. You should plan on having breakfast at the airport. There used to be a place through security. I am sure it's still there. I've had several breakfasts there. :)

Thank you to both of you. I failed to mention that we do have a car. I was just concerned about the time it might take to get from the hotel to the aiprort. I see that things are not that far away, but, I would think we will need to expect some traffic in the city as we make our way to the airport around 7 AM. Does having a car, open up options? Is it best to stay near the Art Museum or near Merchant City? We hope to park the car when we arrive and not use it during our 2 day stay until we leave for the airport.

Thanks to all.

Maureen, if it were me, I would ditch the car when you arrive. Why pay for parking? And, why risk a £30 fine for driving in the bus lanes! From this TA post it sounds like Glasgow is getting as crazy as Florence in regards to bus lane/no go areas for cars!! If you decide to keep the car, you should see what MC has to say about driving to the airport.

And there is a great article in today's NY Times Travel section on 36 hours in Glasgow. Take a look. It includes a good video.

Hi Maureen,

If you should want to stay At :-) the airport (just to be sure, you do mean Glasgow International Airport (GLA)? not Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK), which is a lot further from the city), I've had a couple nice stays at the Holiday Inn Express that's at GLA, http://www.expressglasgowairport.co.uk You follow a walkway adjacent to the rental car parking from the terminal and it's at the other end of the path. Getting in to the city on the shuttle really doesn't take long.

Cheers.

To get to the airport for that time you may have to battle through the rush hour traffic, I would second dropping of the car when you arrive in Glasgow. Parking is not easy and as Pam says the bus lane cameras can be annoying and it is not obvious to locals which ones operate 24 hours and which don't. As well as the public transport options, you can always book a taxi. To get to the airport the taxi should be book not hailed off the street or a taxi rank as boundary charges apply.
