B&B suggestions for Edinburgh and Scotland

Headed to Scotland in September for two weeks to see my mother's land visit relatives we have never. We want spend the first couple of days in Edinburgh the rent a car for the rest of the trip and go were ever we desire.

Which would be better for staying in Edinburgh, B&B or Hotel? Can someone make a specific reference to a place to stay?

Is there an online listing of B&B's in Scotland?

dd,

You might have a look at Hotel Ceilidh Donia. It's not right in the downtown area, but not hard to get to the sights via Bus or Taxi. It's a very comfortable hotel and the staff are wonderful.

this is a good tool to find a place to stay.
Ken suggests the Hotel Ceilidh Donia. I do know that this place has changed ownership in the last year or so,still seems popular and a short bus ride to all the main sights.
There are loads of small hotels Guest house and hotel in this general area, sorry I can't make specific recommendations as I live in Edinburgh so don't use the hotels.

This site is a useful one for finding places to stay

https://www.visitscotland.com/

It's always worth remembering that a lot of networking goes on between accommodation providers and if you arrive somewhere without having booked in advance and the places you try are unable to offer you a bed for the night, then likely they'll know someone "down the road" who might be able to help. So always ask if they know of anywhere else.

Have a great trip!

we really enjoyed the Adria House, walking distance from the last tram stop, the main bus terminal, and the royal mile. They are within walking distance, half a mile or so. Breakfast was great, rooms are large, the brother and sister team running the B&B are really friendly and helpful. There is a pretty steep hill to walk up or down as you arrive or leave the B&B but was doable for my wife and I (65ish) . Decent website will help you decide if it is up your alley! http://adriahouse.co.uk/ I saw you were asking about cash/cards, I got cash when we arrived from an ATM but used card most of the way. At the end of our 10 days we were at Adria House (after visiting Ft. William and the Isle of Skye) and the Adria House folks allowed me to pay most of my bill with the cash I had left in addition to putting part of it on my card. We had an early flight back to the US so I held on to 35 pounds for the taxi and we were flush!

Hello ddgofer, my family and I are traveling to Edinburgh about 3 weeks after you and I was able to find a really nice place on Airbnb for a very reasonable price just minutes walk from the Royal Mile. But if you rather be a little future away from the city, I'm sure you could find one on Airbnb. I've used that website on all my vacationstuff and have never had a problem but I have read that some people have. I'm sure there are other good webs sites but I'm not to familiar with them. Happy travels.

We stayed in September at Rick's recommendation of the Priestville Guest House and the price was nice if you're watching your pounds. It's quaint, a bit quirky, and older, but it's clean, comfy, breakfast is great, and it's very convenient (2 blocks) to the bus that takes you directly to the Royal Mile in about 15 minutes. There are also nice restaurants within walking distance. Plus, owner Colin will make sure you have a parking spot, if needed. We liked it because it was in a regular (safe) neighborhood rather than in the midst of downtown tourism. In Edinburgh, I recommend a three-night stay. We stayed at other B&Bs throughout Scotland and can recommend some if you're going to be in the same locations we were in.
