Sorry, can't help with Dufftown, but look at Cardhu House, near Knockandoo, a nice little B&B we work with.
Regards Pitlochry, please do look at our own web site www.beinnbhracaigh.com, which I hope might be of interest.

Best regards

James

I have stayed at the Highlander Inn in Craigellachie, great place to be based if you are visiting a few distilleries, only 2 miles or so from Dufftown. It is an excellent whisky pub , does great beers and the food is superb.
Last time I was in Pitlochry I stayed at McKenzies B&B right on the main street it was very good. My brother has stayed at the Moulin Inn just outside the town and liked it a lot, I have been there a few times for meals which were very good , the bar area dates back to 1695 if I remember correctly.

Three years ago we stayed at Atholl Villa: easy walking distance to the fish ladder and downtown, close to restaurants and across the street from Heathergems. (Take a look online www.heathergems.com/makingheathergems at the video of making jewelry from bound heather stems.) We had a small ground floor room and en suite to accommodate my mobility issues, but the breakfast room was spacious and sunny and served the "full Scottish." I appreciated the B & B's front garden, planted with varieties of heather, especially since our trip was out of season for heather. My only regret? The timing of our visit on a night the theatre was dark.

We just returned from Scotland and England. We stayed in Pitlochry at the most amazing B&B. Craigatin House here. It was absolutely lovely! Comfortable, beautiful setting, walking distance from town. I highly recommend this B&B. One of our favorites on our trip.

I stayed at Craigroyston House in Pitlochry in August 2014. Enjoyed the stay there. This is in town and a short walk from the train station.

I believe we had to pay in cash (seemed to be common with many of the B&Bs in Scotland).

Yes, B&B's usually want cash. I've always found that it's pretty easy to get the money out of an ATM.
