We will be on the RS heart of Scotland tour October 14-21.
Best guess for folks in the know, do you think we will experience beautiful autumn colors?
Thank you for your time.
We don't really have the 'leaf peeping' tradition here. There is some autumnal colour as the leaves change, but also massive piles of dead leaves on the paths.
However autumn can be a beautiful season here.
Something else to consider is much of the wooded areas of Scotland are covered in evergreen trees. I just did a quick Google and it says about 2/3 of the trees are coniferous but I can't confirm the accuracy of that. I think it also depends where you are- you'll get more deciduous trees in the lowlands and border areas. We once visited Peebles (in the borders) in late October and the colours there were beautiful.
Thank you
We live at 9,000 ft in the Colorado mountains and the aspen are glorious so not going to Scotland in mid-October for the leaves – just wondering. We usually go to Europe in October (to avoid crowds and heat) and usually there’s some lovely color.
You should have some lovely colour in the woodlands especially in Perthshire which is well known for gorgeous leaf colour, given the extent of deciduous trees there. Some of the colour around Pitlochry in particular is stunning. It’s when Perthshire, IMO, is at its best. You’ll be travelling as Scotland IMO begins to look its most colourful.
The moorland hillsides also turn a quite amazing amber/orange as autumn progresses, though that is mostly in the West Highlands.
