At the gate, finally! - UPDATE

Well, the time has ticked down and I’m on my way to Scotland. Seems like I’ve planned this trip forever. I just want to thank all the Forum members who assisted with my planning. Especially want to mention Mike ( Aucterless), Pam, Carol, Frank, Allan, Andrea, Claudia and Nigel. I really appreciate all of your advice and recommendations for Scotland and London.

I might have a wee dram to celebrate..

Regards, Linda

What an awesome time you will have!!

By all means, have a wee dram and if you can’t get with the idea of haggis, vegan haggis is pretty good and does not involve cow body parts!! 😆😆

Whew! It has been a whirlwind. Edinburgh was great as far as touring castle, attending the Military Tatoo and some of the Fringe events but, oh my, the trash was NEXT LEVEL. Yes, there was a bin workers (refuse workers) strike during my visit. I understand now that the clean up has begun and I believe the strike is over. Someone told me that workers in Glasgow will be striking too. Argh!

Inverness now for 4 days and have really enjoyed myself here in this smaller city. Not so intense as Edinburgh. Toured with Rabbies to Culloden Moor, Clava Cairnes and Glen Afric. The leader, Amy, was so very knowledgeable and weaved in stories in her talk. I loved my day with her and the rest of the small group. Tomorrow it’s off to Aberdeen by train and then bus to Banchory (pronounced bankory). Funny about words……. American English pronunciation for the word “Cockburn” is quite different from Britain English. It is “coburn” here in this country.

Will attend the Braemar Highland games during my short stay in Banchory.

Tonight, if I can stay up after this day of touring, will be live traditional music at a pub.

Oh, and CityMapper app is the BOMB! It really worked well in Edinburgh.

Just want to give another shoutout to Sownack. The tip about Bus #201 from Aberdeen to Banchory was perfect. It was a breeze today

My, where do I start? A full trip report will be submitted upon my return to Seattle and jet lag subsides. For now, highlights are Braemar gathering and Highland games were all that I hoped for. Plenty of burly men tossing heavy weights, dancers with agile feet and pointy toes, and fabulous pipes and drums. The then Prince Charles attended the gathering and 5 days later, his mum passed away. The sadness for the loss of HM Queen Elizabeth was palpable on Friday. I’m now in London taking in the sights and catching glimpses of King Charles traveling from Parliament.

Off to the theatre tonight after a wee rest at my cool hotel room. More later……
