Arriving in Edinburgh airport late

We will be going to Scotland in July, but our flight lands (if on time) at 11:30 at night. What is the best way to get into the city at midnight? From what I can see, the tram and train don't work that late. Is that correct?

We plan on renting a car after our time (1 day) in Edinburgh, but since we arrive so late, should we just get our rental car? Will the rental car companies even be open?

Thank you for your help!

Take a taxi to your hotel, get as good a night's sleep as you can, and don't deal with getting your rental car until the day you're leaving Edinburgh. No sense having a car in the city.

I don't know if all taxi companies do this, but ours gave us a voucher to save (I forget the amount -- I think 5 pounds) on our return trip to the airport. This makes it worthwhile to use the same taxi company instead of trying to save a bit by using tram or bus.

The tram runs until wee hours of morning. Cheap and safe. Can check the schedule online.

Thank you both so much for your help! I am so excited to go to Scotland and you have put my heart at ease. I was worried that it would be difficult to get into the city so late at night. Thank you again for your help!

I just checked the schedule for the tram. Last tram leaves the airport at 10:48 pm. I would go with a taxi......

We were talking about trams because the tram is an efficient connection between the Airport and downtown Edinbugh.
I am glad to see that buses are available too.

actually the buses are a far more efficient way of getting into the city, shorter route and also stops at many of the main hotel hubs on the way in,the Airport bus announces all the stops and what hotels are nearby. You can pay on the bus and get change but the trams you must have a ticket to ride before getting on.
you are saying We ,how many are we,if 2 then a taxi will work out roughly twice the price of the tram or bus option ,if 4 then about the same price.
If you have never been to Edinburgh before get a taxi, the cost is not that much and taxis are safe and well regulated in the city, plus they get you door to door.
