Less than ten minutes to the next Outlander segment... Are you ready?
Pam
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about! I'm ready, though, to take a nap.
Just finished watching. SOOOO good to have it back.
@ Monte- It's a TV series on STARZ based on the series of books by Diana Gabaldon. Set at first in Scotland just prior to the Jacobite rising of 1745. Claire, the protagonist, is an unwitting time traveler from the end of WWII. Good history, good scenery, good actors, good novels, .... even good sex!!!!
Oh Monte! It's a TV series on STARZ. Outlander is about a woman, Claire who is transported back in time from post WWII to a few years before 1745. You should be watching it for the scenery alone! A lot was filmed at Doune Castle. I think that they actually filmed a lot of the exterior countryside shots in Ayreshire or Dumphries despite the fact that the book sets it all in the north and not far from Inverness.
Pam
PS Yes, indeed Toni--good sex too! And great apologies as well!
Ladies, Thanks for the information. We have an Idaho antenna which is an HD antenna duct tapped to the front porch. We get, free, CBS 3 and four PBS stations. Nothing so fancy as Outlander, but you make it sound as if we should.
Monte, the first 8 episodes are out on DVD - totally worth it!!!
If they are that good, and good sex included, I will keep an eye out.
Thanks. I'm a Primer, but it will have to wait a while as we won't be around for a while.
Disturbing almost-rape scene this week, though! Why didn't they shoot the guy in the red coat?
I have not watched it, but I did learn a lot about it this week from this article: 172 Thoughts I Had Watching Outlander.
@ Rebecca- They didn't shoot Black Jack Randal because he is a major character in the first several books. If you haven't read the them, they are even better than the TV show. I'm anxiously awaiting the newest one... hope it comes out soon.
Thanks Toni! That explains it!
I haven't read the books or seen any of the series, but after scanning those 172 thoughts mentioned by Laura, I'm wondering if a better title might be 50 shades of Scotland.
Actually a friend of mine, who is now reading the books, is calling it Fifty Shades of Tartan! BTW, we have about another two years to wait for book 9 of the series - bummer.
Loved the books....Love the show although I just obtained access to it (thank you Amazon!) but Laura your "172 Thoughts" link was the best! Great laugh!
Pam
My HS membership sent me this and I thought of you shameless Historic Scotland self publicity.
Enjoy!
Wish there was a like button on this forum! Thanks MC for the map of Outlander film sites! I'll have add them to our itinerary!
Okay, I'm now going to have to look for the Blackness Castle in Outlander. I actually visited Blackness and thought it was a great and different castle. Great views of the Firth of Forth Bridge too! Anyone else who wants to visit, should know that it's quite close to Linlithgow and so not far from Edinburgh at all. You go into the castle though a small door. It's like a ship in someways.
Pam, I suppose it will be like Doune and Monty Python, only going there makes you reaslise how many of the castles in Holy Grail are Doune Castle wearing a false moustache.
Better make sure the kids aren't around too.........
Yup, those first 2 minutes were an eye-opener. She certainly is flexible, isn't she?
Very athletic.
The hubbs and I have watched the first two episodes especially since we're headed to Scotland this year. Dang. It doesn't quite do it for us. Maybe we'll come back to it another time.
When you say you watched the first 2 episodes, are you talking about the two new ones shown this month? If so, those are really episodes 9 and 10. Go to STARZ on demand and watch the series from the beginning.
Seen a bit of the series, and wow, if that had gone out before the referendum it would have been one almighty advert for 'Yes Scotland'!
They'd have needed to change their name!
Mary - We watched the very first two episodes of Outlander when the time travel occurs. Actually, we've now watched the third show. I wonder if we'll get hooked?!
Kay, take the book to read on the long flight over to Scotland. I'm sure you'll get hooked, and go on to read the whole series like the rest of us. Every time we go over, my husband tells me to stop looking for Jamie!!
Sorry Mary, Jamie works in our IT department.
Ah, so he's kept up with times has he, MC? Maybe your help desk needs some calls. :)
Mary...Hubbs and I have now watching 5 episodes. Maybe we're getting hooked?! I will definitely keep my eye out for Jamie when in Scotland!
According to MC, Jamie is working in Glasgow. Guess he is a time traveler too!!
Historic Scotland is really going for the tie in market! The castles, in Gaelic!
