Approximate cost of taxi from Edinburgh Airport to City Center (i.e. Royal Mile)

  1. What's the current rate for a one way taxi from Edinburgh Airport to the Royal Mile? Approximate is good enough.
  2. Are Taxi's plentiful or is there a shortage at the Airport? i.e. is there usually a wait? Thank you.

Did this about a month ago. The cost was around 25 pounds and took less than half an hour. There were a number waiting outside baggage claim - ie no waiting.

L28 for party of four.
Sometimes there's a line with no taxis. When we arrived on a Friday (Jun17) there was construction that was discouraging taxis, according to the driver. Got a ride within 15 minutes.

We found the taxi situation at Edinburgh Airport (in June) to be frustrating. On a Saturday morning there was a long line with people waiting for taxis to go into the city. We waited 20 minutes in line without moving and then we ended up taking the Airlink bus service (buy tickets from the bus driver as you board - exact cash or card accepted 4.50 GBP one way). The bus drops you at Princes Street in the New Town and is very convenient. I suppose if you have a lot of luggage, a taxi makes more sense.

On our way back to fly out, we took the tram (also runs conveniently to and from the airport and New Town - 6 GBP) and that was easy to use also.

Depending on what day of the week and what time you arrive can have a huge impact on the traffic levels. I nearly missed a flight as the taxi got stuck in traffic. I have always used the fast and efficient public transport system since.
