"Anytime" Train Tickets from Manchester to Glasgow UK

I will be traveling from Manchester Airport to Glasgow Central in late August and plan to buy an "Anytime" ticket.
Has anyone had experience with this type of ticket? I am wondering if it is as easy to use as the Virgin Train and Scot Rail websites suggest. In other words, if I buy a ticket for 10 a.m., for example, and our flight is delayed, can I
hop on the another train without any problems. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, an Anytime ticket is valid for any train. It's the walk up fare so no need to buy in advance.

However you may wish to consider an Advance ticket on a Transpennine Express service (on sale in a couple of weeks for late August). These have a condition known as an easement, which means you can travel on a later train if your flight is delayed.

Anytime does really mean anytime. And you have two days to make the journey in should you wish to stop on the way.

Cost: £75.50.

A restricted ticket limited to a single service by comparison can be as cheap as £12.

Additional: The TPE service mentioned in the previous message is good because you don't have to change, but it only runs every 2 hours.
