Hi RS Community! I am considering going between Glasgow & Edinburgh via Stirling. I have found two sites for luggage storage - Stasher & Radical Storage that have location(s) in Stirling. Has anyone used either of these services recently? (particularly for Stirling, but i'd be grateful to hear about anyone's experience with them.) Thanks in advance! T.
Hi, Theresa,
According to the Stasher website, the Premier Inn behind the train station will store your luggage for 5 pounds 90 per bag per day. I've never used their services, as I've always had a car. You may want to contact the Premier Inn (Forthside Road) directly to confirm the arrangements. They may offer you a better price, although Stasher offers insurance for up to 1,000 pounds. I don't know whether that is for one suitcase or for more than one. In any case, it would most likely be a good idea to only leave luggage that can be locked.
I hope that helps. If you do end up using that service, please let us know how reliable the service is. That question has come up several times on this forum.
Best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
When you click through to the Stasher website it does say 'unavailable'.
If you look at Visit Stirling it suggests the Willy Wallace Hostel at 77 Murray Place (but check beforehand that is correct)

At least that is just across the road from the railway station, so handy for you- see google maps-

Hi again, Theresa,
Apparently the Stasher website has incorrect information. The Premier Inn is definitely available for luggage storage through Stasher. That is confirmed with the manager at the PI. If you'd like to confirm for yourself, the telephone number at the PI is 011 44 333 321-9335. Press the pound sign (hash mark) when you get the options, to be put through to reception.
The Premier Inn is about 300 yards from the train station, but if you are going uptown to visit the castle, it is in a slightly opposite direction.
The Willy Wallace is the equivalent of about four to five U.S. blocks from the station, part of it uphill, so if you're carrying/dragging a heavy suitcase, it may not be as convenient as the Premier Inn. Also, the Willy Wallace has a quite grim outside appearance. (Yes, I know that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover!) It may be all tickety-boo inside, but for my money, I'd be a lot more comfortable stashing (!) my luggage at the Premier Inn.
The good thing about the Willy Wallace is that it's next door to an Oxfam charity shop, which has the best selection of used books in Stirling. It's also directly on the way to the castle.
As the Premier Inn works in conjunction with Stasher, they (Stasher) must be a legitimate organization.
Good luck and best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
Just another tip for anyone visiting Stirling on foot. If you're walking up to the castle from the train or bus station, walk up the Station Road hill, then turn right on Barnton Street/Murray Place. Cross over Barnton Street/Murray Place, and just to the right of the Oxfam shop is a shopping precinct called Friars Street. Head straight up Friars Street and it ends at Baker Street. From there it's an easy walk to the castle.
Going that way will save you walking all the way round Murray Place past the Thistle Centre.
Plus, Europa Music, at #10 Friars Street, is the best music and video shop in Stirling. The back room has thousands of used albums.
Happy music shopping!

How 'bout this place? Seem legit?

We are planning to take the train from Edinburgh, arriving late morning, but our B&B doesn't have check in until 4pm and I'm not picking up the car until the next day.
Hi, cindyngabe,
Well, it shows more promise than the Willy Wallace! It is uphill going there, but at least it's downhill on the way back! To get there, follow my directions above. Up Station Road to Murray Place, right on Murray, left on Friars at the Oxfam shop. Baker Street is at the top of Friars Street. Turn right.
Let us know how it works out. The information will be helpful for other travellers in your situation.
Best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
I have no personal knowledge about using Stasher service in Scotland, but it was handy when in Italy, when my daughter and I were in Venice for a couple of nights. The site sent us to a tiny bar. They scanned the barcode I had received after payment, then scanned our luggage. They dragged it toward the kitchen. We retrieved it a couple of days later, with no problems. I'd certainly use the service again.
thank you for sharing your experience! Much appreciated.
