Anyone been to Ayr, Ayrshire county and genealogy search

Any suggestions or comments about your experience in Ayr? I'm hoping to do an ancestorial search there

What is it you are looking for? Ayrshire is quite a large county. Ayr is a good base for it and has certain merits.

For records purposes, most genealogical records in the UK are centralised in London for England and Wales, and Edinburgh for Scotland for access and several are available on line. For local records, Ayrshire is split between three local councils, East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and North Ayrshire, though historic ones for Ayrshire as a whole are at Ayrshire Archives, which comes under South Ayrshire Council and probably the best first port of call.

I haven't stayed in Ayrshire, but I did do a day trip. I went to the Robert Burns Memorial Centre in Ayr. It was quite the tourist attraction when I went, and it looks like it's grown over the past 20 years.

I didn't explore the town as it was my last full day in Scotland after a long trip that go extended due to an airline strike. Here's the Undiscovered Scotland link. And here is Saltcoats where the MC says that the Archives are.
