Any suggestions for St Andrews and fishing villages from either Glasgow or Edinburgh? Will be in both cities with no car.
There's bus service through the East Neuk villages. Some buses only hit some of the towns, so check Itineraries carefully to be sure you'll see the most picturesque ones. I just used the buses to go from St. Andrews to Edinburgh, encumbered by a suitcase, so I had limited opportunity to walk around. It would have been nice to make a day of it with no bag in tow.
To get to St. Andrews faster from Edinburgh, take the train from Leuchars and pick up a bus for the quick hop to St. Andrews.
Yes! In St Andrews, There is a nice restaurant with a view out over the old course above the golf museum. The Himalayas putting course is a great deal of fun, inexpensive, and an easy walk. I loved it. You can also walk out on the same beach where they had running scenes in Chariots of Fire.
I took a Rabbie's tour in 2019 from Edinburgh to St Andrews. Nice stop along the way and at a fishing village. I believe they also offer the tour from Glasgow.
My daughter and I also took a Rabbie's tour in 2018 to see the Doune Castle, and more. Very enjoyable day out.
Ellen, we're doing the Rabbies St. Andrews tour. Any details you can share would be appreciated. Is there an opportunity to visit the golf club? Optional tours?
