Any restricted car plate number for private parking in Edinburgh Old Town?

Hi All,

I just book an overnight car space in a private car park in Edinburgh Old Town. During the booking it asked the vehicle registration number which i could enter TBC if unknown at the moment. but it also says, that i need to re-check with the owner once i got the car in case the car is restricted to park there.

I'd pick up the car from Inverness so i just wonder if there's any restriction for private parking space in Edinburgh Old Town?

cheers

if it is a private parking space then there may be restrictions on the size of the car or the height of it .If it is just a standard car then you should be ok.private parking spaces in the Old town are very limited

It may be that the car park uses number plate recognition cameras to allow vehicles to access and leave the car park.

Hi Unclegus and Bob,

i find this secured gated parking just at the side of Edinburgh Castle at King's Stable Lane. Its cost for overnight is like half than others GBP 9.5.

Have you guys heard about this parking facility as i could not find any review about it?

Cheers

never heard of it, could be legit but could be a con, there are private areas in the street there is also a huge Public car park, can you post the details and I will have a look , if I get the chance I might be able to pop up there and have a look,I was actually in the area yesterday.let me know the details and when you are visiting.
Cars and Edinburgh just do not mix, gave up my car nearly 12 years ago , but I can easily walk to work and just rent cars when I need them.
is there any reason for you to have a car when in Edinburgh , you won't be able to use it unless you are heading out of the city and driving in the city is a bloody nightmare

Hi Unclegus

really appreciate your help.

'never heard of it, could be legit but could be a con' that's also my concern. the address of the gated parking space is King's Stable Lane, Edinburgh EH1 2LQ. It's just next not that far from Edinburgh Castle. From gmaps, i could view the red front gate with warning of CCTV. I got the carpark from Parkopedia.com (when I typed in Edinburgh Old Town) and one other parking website but hardly find any other mention or review.

http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/edinburgh_old_town_edinburgh_united_kingdom/?ac=1&country=UK&lat=55.95025339999999&lng=-3.1904183999999987&ampl_devid=f28b0ba2-6edd-4064-90a8-91a77dbaf118

actually we won't use the car in Edinburgh, we just keep it for the return to airport the next day. we'd arrive in Edinburgh in the evening but going to airport the next day afternoon so the car rental fee would be the same if we return the car upon arriving in Edinburgh.

cheers

looks like it is the car park for Argyle house , former tax offices and has been used as government/council offices but I think it is empty at the moment.I think you should be ok ,as I said before I think there will be size restrictions for the car , so as long it is not some huge beast you should be fine. If I get the chance I will have a wander up there next weekend and see what's going on.

The Argyll House carpark is the one next to it. I also guess the restriction is due to the size since King's Stable Lane is pretty narrow almost like a pedestrian street.

It's still another 3 weeks before I reach Edinburgh :) thanks so much for your help Unclegus

as I said if I am in the city centre next weekend I will have a look at the area, there is a good farmers market in the area on a Saturday, but I live and work on the south side of the city so am not in the centre very often.
