Another Skye question - laundry service?

As we're going to be on Skye in the middle of our 15-day trip, which is when we would typically do laundry, does anyone know if there's either a laundry service or self-serve laundrette in/around Portree? I can't find anything online and I don't believe our guest house (Coolin View) has laundry facilities.

I used the laundry facilities at the hostel mentioned above a number of years ago. Fond memories of the pleasant man who ran it. Note that it doesn't open till 11am, I recall that not fitting into our plan very well.

Thanks for the info! I hadn't realized the hostel's laundry facilities were open to the public, so that will work for us.

The one mentioned above is the only one I know of in Portree.

I asked our B&B owner, and they offer L10/load for guests. Check with yours!

I hate nothing more than spending four hours in a Laundromat waiting for machines and fighting broken dryers when I could be doing anything else :-)

Hi, Laurie,

As others have posted, the self service laundrette at the hostel is the only laundrette on Skye. If you are going to be at the Coolin View more than a couple of days, e-mail or call them to see if they'd be willing to do your wash, or see if they can offer an alternate solution. Jacqui may know the answer to this - some of the larger campsites have a laundry facility which you can (sneak in and) use. I don't remember if there any such campsites on Skye.

One caveat clothes dryers in Scotland tend to run hot. I mean really hot! If you have any shrinkables, just lay them on the back seat of the car once you've washed them. They will eventually dry.

Best wishes, and safe travels!

Hi Mike,
I know that Camping Skye in Broadford has laundry facilities, but don't know to what extent one could sneak in and use them. Most sites elsewhere tend to be quite basic. For those driving up to Skye via the A82, I do know that the Green Welly (a shop, cafe and well known stop off point on the route north) has self serve laundry facilities in their car park.

Best wishes

My husband and I used the hostel's launderette service less than a week ago. I highly recommend.

Thanks for the additional info, everyone! We were on Skye early last week, and were able to use the hostel's laundry facilities. For anyone else looking to use it, make sure you have change. I believe the washer we used was 3 pounds per load, and the dryer was the same. We were in and out in a little over an hour. We parked in a paid lot a block away, and it was down a flight of stairs behind the hostel, so be aware if you're hauling more than a load or two.
