I note that there are already a number of itineraries posted, but would love advice on the feasibility of the following July trip. I'll be meeting my husband in St Andrews with our two teenage daughters. We will be coming from Glasgow with a rental car.
Day 1: St. Andrews
Day 2: St Andrews/Somewhere in the Cairngorms
Day 3: Inverness
Day 4: Thurso - ferry to Orkney
Day 5: Kirkwall
Day 6: Kirkwall
Day 7: Kirkwall
Day 8: Ferry to mainland, stay in Scourie or Ullapool
Day 9: Ferry to Lewis, stay Stornoway
Day 10: Stornoway
Day 11: Ferry to Skye
Day 12: Skye
Day 13: Glencoe
Day 14: Callander
Day 15: Glasgow in prep for flight home
Day 16: Fly home from Glasgow
As you can see, I am very intrigued by islands. I wonder if we are short changing mainland sites, but I think whatever we do will be wonderful. We are interested in hiking, birding and ancient sites. I know that I need to book lodging in Skye and Kirkwall soon. Thanks for any and all feedback!
