Question for the seasoned travelers on here for a complete novice - is it true that British Airways runs a sale on their flights from Boxing Day through January, again at the end of August for 1 month, then on Black Friday to the end of November? TYIA

I cannot answer your question about the usual dates for BA sales, as we fly with miles. But I have noticed comments about the Black Friday sale in the past.
However, they are also having a sale on “vacations” right now, through October 31, for travel through the end of April 2024.
That would be flight plus hotel, or flight plus rental car. If the dates work for you, take a look.

In previous years I have noted the Christmas/New Year period sale. The others have, I'm sure, happened but honestly I can't recall dates.
HOWEVER, what i came to say is that from my experience of looking for flights during the sale is (a) not every route is on sale, (b) those that are not necessarily for every day - so flexibility is required, and (c) it's often the premium cabins where the sales are rather than economy.

As has been stated through the ages, the only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes.
Whether or not BA runs a sale depends on how ticket sales are going. If they do run one, it doesn't mean it is systemwide or will cover the routes you are seeking.
Black Friday is common for travel deals but again they may not be what you are looking for.
Black Friday is less than a month away. If you can wait, you will find out.
