Airbnb in Edinburgh and Glasgow

Hello,
Just booked two airbnb's in Glasgow and Edinburgh (I can still cancel at no cost if need be) and I was just wondering about the areas. I didn't read any warnings in the comments provided. We are on a lower end budget so I realize I won't be able to get a similar place in the more touristy areas.

The Glasgow airbnb is in the Dennistoun area. I looked at the map and it looks to be a couple of blocks East of the Tennant's Brewery. The Edinburgh is on Leith Walk but is all reviews said it was only a 15 minute walk from Waverley Station.

We don't mind walking and actually prefer to walk as much as possible (we have to work off all the beer). Are these areas ok to walk when we have had a few and late-ish at night? We are well traveled so aware of precautions in keeping belongings safe. We also like to have a couple of drinks and eat where the locals do.

So...are the areas ok to do this? I just know in my home town the neighbourhood can turn very rough in a matter of a few blocks.

Thanks!
