We are going to Scotland in Sept. We are 74 and 76, and wonder if there is a restriction on us for the rental of a car?
I was refused a rental in England because of my age of 75 at the time. C all the car rental agency you plan to use and ask them.
We use economycarrental.com. They are an aggregator so you may have a choice of companies. One of the filters is age so companies not accepting of your age are not included in the offers. Although not in the same country, my husband has been able to rent a car in France and Portugal at age 79 and then 80.
It varies company to company - some cut off at 70, others at 75, others charge an extra fee. It can also vary branch to branch of the same company
The industry line is "some companies will only allow you between 25 and 75, but there are companies that will allow you to hire up to 99 years of age".
Thank you all for the information. I have contacted Celtic Legend, and it appears they are fine with our age.
I have a reservation with Celtic legend this fall , I'm 77 and had no issues with them
Celtic Legend is a very well regarded company - you won;t have any problems if you use them for car hire..
I agree with the recs for Celtic Legend. I used them in May to rent a car from Arnold Clark and had a wonderful experience. They are really a good company to deal with and I could not have been happier with my rental car and the process.
We used Arnold Clark. They are OK with anyone up to 80 and their agent told us that 80+ is also OK if you have a letter from your doctor that says you are fit to drive.
Another yes for Celtic Legend - I had a reservation with Avis which required a doctor's letter ( I am 77 ) and switched to Celtic Legend . No medical verification required , AND . the cost on a one month rental was $ 1000.00 less than Avis .
