Hello, I am finalizing the end of our itinerary for our Scotland trip for September and was wondering if working in Lock Lomond from Glencoe to Stirling is worth it and doable in a day. We are staying 1 night in Glencoe after leaving Sky and want to end up in Stirling for either 1 or 2 nights (maybe will decide to do 2 nights in Glencoe and only 1 is Stirling) before heading back to Edinburgh for 1 night catching our flight the next day. I see route A82 goes along the Western side of the Lock then connects with A811 to Stirling vs. A85 to A84 to Stirling that does not pass Lock Lomond but offers other sites along the way. I did want to see Lock Lomond but can be flexible. It would appear that both routes allow for The Trossachs range/area views. I am thinking A85/A84 might be quicker to Stirling. Any words of wisdom for either route? Pros/cons? Thanks!
Personally I tend to take the A85/A84 route. I don't enjoy the drive alongside Loch (note spelling which also helps with pronunciation - there is not a hard 'K' sound in loch) Lomond. The road is very narrow in places and if you meet a lorry or coach coming the other way you will breathe in while hoping your rental car emerges unscathed.
The other route is less travelled and all the better for that in my opinion. There is Loch Lubhnaig on the way or a small diversion to Loch Tay. Callander is pretty for a stroll.
