If you have a car, Barcaldine Castle is about a 20 minute drive out of town. Haunted rooms, secret passages, what's not to love? We stayed there overnight in 2022 before catching a ferry to Mull.
We stayed at Oban Bay Hotel during the Rick Steves Scotland tour.
We enjoyed our October 2023 stay at the Manor House in Oban.

Hi, sofi.haelan,
We really like the Kathmore B&B on the outskirts of Oban, but easy walking distance to town & Tesco. www.kathmore.co.uk However, the last couple of times through, we haven't been able to get a room, as Morven has had to close of some of the rooms due to problems getting cleaning help. Brexit has certainly hade a hash of that! If you can get a room there, they're all ensuite, and breakfasts are great!
Last two times through, we've stayed at the Premier Inn near the ferry terminal. It's not bad - a bit pricey - but it's typical Premier Inn - you know what you're getting. The car park is very small, and they have recently instituted a 10 pound per day parking charge. There is plenty of street parking nearby; however, you need to move your car by 9:00 a.m., or feed the meter, before the traffic wardens get you! The Premier Inn has a restaurant on the premises; the food is decent enough (standard PI fare), and reasonably priced, so you won't go hungry!
Enjoy your time in Oban!
Best wishes, and safe travels!
Mike (Auchterless)
p.s.: If you really want to splash out, Number 26 By the Sea was recently named by Tripadvisor as one of the "hottest" new hotels in Scotland. It has scads of wonderful reviews.
Like Allan, we also enjoyed our 2 night stay at Barcaldine Castle in September 2023. Lovely breakfast and BYOB for a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.
We stayed at the Pearle Oban Hotel, (https://perlehotels.com/oban/) , which was a very short walk to West Coast Motors where you pick up the Iona-Mull-Staffa island ferry tour tickets. The ferry terminal is just around the corner from the hotel.
The Pearle Oban location in the middle of Oban allowed easy access to Oban Distillery (great tour!), other really cool storefronts, pubs and eateries. We especially enjoyed the restaurant Ee-Usk, again easy walking from Pearle Oban. Markie Dans was a great pub with live music and beer garden (https://markiedans.co.uk/ ), and we loved it.
My first choice in Oban is the Royal Hotel.
It is right in the town centre, and opposite the bus stands and the rail station, also a very short walk to the ferry terminal. I've stayed at many others when they are full but that is my preference.
If all you need is a place to sleep, google The Glenburnie House and see if that fits your needs.
For us, it's mandatory that we can walk back from the pub after music and a few beers or whiskys. There are a dozen of small B&Bs on Dunollie Road behind Markie Dans. You can cruise the street with Google Maps Street View and see phone numbers and/or emails. Some of them are probably on Booking.com. We stayed in an AirB&B that was a longish walk and it was okay if self-catering is okay (we prefer a good Scottish breakfast). Your choices are probably getting slim.
We loved the Barriemore B&B. It's right on the waterfront just a short walk from town. Our room faced the Bay, with two chairs and binoculars in front of two large windows. The bed was comfy and the owner, Mac, was super friendly.
We are staying at the Knipoch House Hotel in Oban in July, then depart to Ballater.
We will have a car - what should we see before we get on the road to Ballater?
To the many travelers who replied to my inquiry for accommodations in Oban,
Thank you very much. No need for further help.
Have a good day.
