accommodation in edinburgh area

unfortunately, I will be in edinburgh at the same time Taylor Swift will and the accommodation prices are insane. Does anyone recommend a location a bus ride away that I should look into staying? Right now, I'm thinking of just taking a late bus/train to stay in St Andrews, spend the next day or half day there, and then returning to Edinburgh afterwards. I had wanted to try to go to St Andrews anyway.

Dundee is your answer. It has a 24 hour a day bus service from Edinburgh on 3 different operators- Flixbus, Citylink and Ember Bus (electric buses),

as well as the frequent trains of course.

Premier Inn prices there are still very reasonable, and way lower than in St Andrews.

Dundee has been cheap all the way through this process of Taylor Swift, and still is. Whereas Glasgow is also high rates on those dates.

And if you do choose Dundee then I strongly recommend the Staybridge Suites. Good (and well priced) apartment hotel with a restaurant. M&S Simply Food nearby for groceries and in room picnic supplies.

The Staybridge Suite is about a five to seven minute walk from the bus station and a taxi ride from the train station is around 6 GBP. (Have cash as the taxis in Dundee prefer cash over credit cards.)

I should know as I've stayed at the Staybridge many times and have easily spent over a 100 nights there. (They even keep a box of stuff for me.)

Very clean, quiet, free breakfast, coffee/tea available for free 24 hours/day, filtered water machine with still and sparkling water, fitness room. And a free self service laundry--3 washers/3 dryers.

The Hotel Indigo is in the same building but the Staybridge is a better deal.

To get to St. Andrews, the #99 bus leaves every 15 minutes from the bus station. It's only 13 miles away.

If you are arriving in Edinburgh by plane, there is a direct bus from the airport to Dundee as well. No changes.

thank you so much!!! at first i was hesitant to ask my question since it seemed kind of a dumb thing to ask!

out of curiosity Frank, why have you stay in Dundee so many times? I'm guessing something work related

Nothing regarding work. I'm a full time traveler with no permanent home. But I've also reached an age where I need to rest every now and then.

So, I have a few hotels spread out around the world where I will stop and rest for awhile. I chose Dundee after my first stay because I get a lot for a low price.

I'm treated well, everyone knows me, they keep a box of things for me, and it's relaxing.

Being an aparthotel/extended stay hotel I can use the kitchen and not have to eat out all the time.
