Hello, we attend the tattoo in August and looking for accommodation close by. As we are in our 70's and not great at battling for a cab or navigating bus routes in new city and country (to us) we are trying for somehwere close to walk - say 10-15 minutes - old speed. We saw Wilde Aparthotel's - is Grassmarket a safe area? Otherwise if you could suggest somewhere that is close but not near bars etc it would be most welcome. Thanks for the site. Learned so much already just looking around. Glenda
That looks like a lovely place to stay.
Central Edinburgh is a safe place….there will be hundreds of people around in August.
The street Wilde’s is on it’s just far enough away from the actual Grassmarket area to be fairly peaceful.
The bars and night activity in the Grassmarket are more than a “block” away.
However, to get to the Castle by foot, you have to walk uphill just about all the way, it’s fairly steep and some of it is up a long flight of steps and/or a steep lane.
The Castle is directly above Wilde’s, high up on its big rock.
I would still book a stay there!
Hotels will be booking up now for the Tattoo and the Festival, so don’t delay.
If you have a look on YouTube, you’ll find lots of videos about the Grassmarket area.
Edinburgh is quite hilly, so you may be glad of the odd taxi ride.
great information, thank you
