Accommodation between Inverness airport and Aberdeen

Coming up to the end of our B&B season here in Skye and we are planning an October break in Shetland immediately following a trip south to England and flying back into Inverness airport. We need a nights accommodation somewhere between Inverness and Aberdeen before taking the overnight ferry to Lerwick. Our flight arrives into Inverness around 4pm and we don’t want to drive for more than about 2 hours as it will be getting dark. Grateful for any suggestions for recommended B&B or hotels somewhere on or near that route. We know there’s a Premier Inn in Elgin but fancy something a bit more luxurious or interesting. Budget is not really an issue. We can travel slightly off route as we will have most of the following day to get to Aberdeen.

Thank you! (feels odd to be asking for advice rather than offering it).

Jacqui, in 2023 we spent 2 nights in Oldmeldrum at The Redgarth. It's an inn on the edge of town with a friendly host, nice breakfast and very comfortable rooms. We had dinner 1 night and it was very good and very popular with the locals.

Jean, thank you that looks lovely. Will definitely check it out.

We're currently staying in a holiday cottage near Elgin. It's definitely more fancy and interesting than a Premier Inn, as it's set within a historic gatehouse.

However, it may not suit your needs—it accommodates up to four people and likely isn't available for just a single night.
It's about a 15-minute drive from Elgin and 10 minutes from the A96. There are no restaurants nearby, so you'd need to have dinner in Elgin and prepare your own breakfast.

And it's only suitable for guests who are comfortable climbing a steep spiral staircase.

We've really enjoyed our stay here and are heading off to Skye tomorrow.

Paul, what a beautiful holiday rental. Sadly not suitable for a one night stay but a great find for long stays. Enjoy Skye!
