A9 from Perth to Inverness

What is the scenery like on the A9 from Perth to Inverness? Is it a true Highland experience?

The A9 north is the main route to Highlands. It is beautiful drive, but it can be a stressful drive as goes from limited to partial limited access to 2 lane highway. It's got everything from major truck traffic to local farmers on it. How much time do you have for your drive? There are some "detours" you can take to get you out of the traffic But if you don't have a lot of time, you'll still enjoy the scenery.

Its a Highland scenery, moors and rolling hills with distant mountain views. For good and ill its also the fast route north and can be frustrating if caught behind a truck when it swaps back to single lanes.
As an option the A93 over Glenshee ,then the Tomintoul road might be worth a look, vastly less traffic, Braemar and Linn of Dee make a pitstop.
The A82, the other route north is much more of the typically mountain views, indeed pretty regularly rockslides fall from Aonach Eagach which towers oved the road in Glencoe.
Nearly all the trip from from Balloch to Glencoe is worth having camera at hand.
