A 4 day trip to Glasgow and area this August ‘26

Hello All,

I wondered if anyone has a favourite B and B or hotel for 4 nights in Glasgow this August? I love good food so this a wish too.

Edinburgh will be very busy with the Fringe Festival so don’t want to be there.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Jaz

Walking tour through Invisible Cities https://invisible-cities.org/

Tenement House Museum https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/the-tenement-house

Dinner at Number 16

Ceilidh At Avante Garde Music Bar https://avantgardeglasgow.co.uk/

We stayed at an AirBNB so I don’t have hotel rec.

Enjoy the planning!

Do you have a particular budget you want to stick to you?

Unfortunately, my favorite lodging there has closed, but I know others have stayed at the Motel One, which is near the train station and is very good value. It’s a chain from Germany, but the rooms are very clean and comfortable. I stayed at the one in Berlin and really liked it a lot.

I stayed at the Apex City of Glasgow hotel for 4 nights in 2024 and liked it a lot. It’s on Bath Street in the city center, near Queen Street Station. It’s also very close to the Sarti family’s bustling Italian restaurant and their little cafe around the corner. I enjoyed my meals at both locations.

I really like the Voco Grand Central at Glasgow Central, but not sure if this has reopened yet following the fire. Just to note that in August, accommodation in Edinburgh during the Fringe is so scarce that many now stay in Glasgow, so that will impact availability.

The facebook page for the Voco Grand Central implies they are still closed.
I'm scheduled to be at Glasgow Central on Sunday, so will try to remember to have a look.

Thank you for all your great suggestions.

I dug into some of the reviews of highly ranked B&Bs and learned that many don’t deserve the ratings they have especially 15Glasgow.

I am now wondering about going further to smaller places such as Paisley or Dunblane. Do you have any recommendations for these smaller centres?

Thanks Jaz!

I don't know Dunblane, and my only trips near Paisley have been to the airport and back, but from everything I've read about Paisley, it sounds like it's a large town that is somewhat depressed and is trying to gentrify itself into something more, but facing pushback from the working locals. These are things that I mostly heard about on Reddit, but a lot of them are from residents.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in a B and B; but I doubt if you'll find anything that luxurious in Paisley. It might help if you'd add your question in your title. For example, edit it and have it read something like "Would like recommendations for an excellent B&B or hotel in Glasgow." That way you might get more responses from others who have stayed in more luxurious places.

Also, you might try checking Booking.com, which has a number of really nice places, and you can check the recommendations, which are verified recs from those who have stayed there. If you get anything rated at 8+ or above, it's going to be pretty good.

I am at Glasgow Central station now.

The Voco Grand Central Hotel remains closed, until further notice.

The Gordon Street entrance to the station remains closed, as do all shops and restaurants in that entrance area.
Only the side entrances to the station are yet open after the fire. No hot drinks in the Avanti 1st class lounge yet either, in another bizarre aftermath- which is where I am writing this from.

What's wrong with 15Glasgow? It looks great to me and it's in a location I'd like. The reviews on Google are mainly 5/5.

Dunblane's nowhere near Glasgow. Mardee's got Paisley just about right. It's fine for a visit if you have an interest in the history of the area, but I wouldn't stay there just to save a few bucks.

I'm no hotel expert, but the last time this question came up I suggested this place - https://maps.app.goo.gl/nG1VdAkmqStDqsEv8 It's a 4 star hotel and in a pretty location.

I would not recommend Paisley unless you get a really good deal. It is a former industrial town and shows it. Both Dunblane and Stirling are good places to stay, but being an hour out of Glasgow and you would be better staying there if your main intent was going to visit those places.
