9-10 days in Scotland

We're a group of 3 women celebrating our birthdays and none of us have ever been there. We love history and hiking and exploring. We want a few days in Edinburgh and to see Glasgow ( have a friend there). Just looking for ideas and recommendations. Was considering flying into Glasgow and out of Edinburgh or vice versa.

Thank you,
Milray Howell

Guess I should have given more info- sorry. Dates are somewhere in the May 21- June 6 for probably 8-10 days. Would like to see Highlands, etc. Maybe fly into Edinburgh and fly out of Inverness?

leonard is correct, you can easily take the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow for a day trip. We did this same trip couple years ago, flying into Edinburgh and departing from Inverness. Couple days in Edinburgh, then took a small group tour operated by Rabbie's (local UK co) for a several day tour of the Highlands. I highly recommend them. I felt like we saw so much more than if we had tried to drive ourselves. Enjoy, Scotland is beautiful!

I lovely 10 day trip trip by train and bus. You will see beautiful Highland scenery, lochs, castles, islands and, maybe, some Hairy Coos.

  • 3 nights Edinburgh
  • 3 nights Oban
  • 1 night Inveraray (Inveraray Castle) or Luss (Loch Lomond)
  • 2 nights Glasgow

Oban, seafood capital of Scotland, is on the west coast and is the gateway to the Inner Hebrides. You can take a wonderful 2 or 3 island day tour with West Coast Tours to Mull, Iona and, possibly, Staffa. Or explore Dunollie Museum and Castle, the Oban Distillery, Dunstaffnage Castle and more.
