8 night trip

Wrapping up an amazing (and extremely lucky) 8 night October trip without any rain. Itinerary was

Ullapool 1 night
Portree 4 nights
Glencoe area 1 night
Edinburgh 2 nights

Lots of hiking and very good seafood. People were extremely friendly. At the seafood store in Portree, the owner shared oysters and raw scallops with us. We wanted to buy a dozen oysters but noted that we didn’t have an oyster knife. He let us borrow one. “Just leave it by the door before you leave Portree”.

I highly recommend Ullapool as an easy first night after landing in Inverness. Really nice town with surprisingly great food options. Seafood Shack was great.

Highlight of the trip was the Skye hikes. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Weather was perfect, no bugs, crowds were thin and manageable, driving was tricky but manageable, scones were delicious.

Hi, Matt,

Just out of curiosity, which hikes did you do on Skye, and which was your favourite?

Thanks!

Hikes listed in order of preference. The Quiraing was my favorite hike ever.

We also did this one in Ullapool that we enjoyed a lot, though the Skye hikes are next level: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ullapool/ullapoolhill.shtml

Thanks,

Great to hear you had such a lovely trip and also enjoyed some amazing hikes. The Ullapool Hill hike is a good option too, my wee grandson (2.5yrs) managed part way up it the other week!

Yes, Skye’s hiking is incredible. Spent 5 days on the island most recently and re-visited some of the top hikes (Quiraing and Old Man amongst them.) Hoping to do a report on that trip soon.

Glad you enjoyed the Corran Bunkhouse - my husband and I have used it regularly and it’s an excellent place, in a lovely situation too.
