7 days in Edingurgh with 5 y/o and 2 y/o

Hi all,

Seeking recomendations for kid friendly activities, restaurants, lodging, parks and playgrounds in Edinburgh. We arrive early September. We plan on taking buses and trams when necessary. We will have one day in Leith. So far Portobello Beach, Royal Botanical Gardens, Prince's Street Gardens and Arthur's Seat are on the itinerary. I am just beginning to flip through Rick's Snapshot Edingurgh book.

Thank you!
Patrick

We are visiting Edinburgh this summer for the first time, so I can only speak from what I've heard and read...I'm sure you have Edinburgh Castle on your list too? That's a must for us. My kids are older than yours (7, 12 and 14), but we have the Camera Obscura on our list, though it's expensive and not one of Rick's top recommendations. (I got great reviews from our neighbor, who has girls the same age as mine. I have to add in some kid-friendly stuff to keep them happy!) I've heard that Our Dynamic Earth is great for kids, and the National Museum of Scotland comes with Rick's highest rating, and I'm sure it would have many things to entertain your little ones!

Hello,

I would recommend camera obscura and dynamic earth for both children and adults alike! As well as this, the national museum and museum of childhood are both free of charge and make for good filler activities if you do end up with a rainy afternoon.

The water of leith walkway is lovely if you get the sun or you could also head up to the park in the meadows.

Dalkeith Country Park is nice and has a giant playground for younger children though is a 20/30 minute drive from the city.

Stockbridge and Morningside are also nice areas of the city with more independent shops and places to eat.

You could also take the train to North Berwick one day and experience a scottish seaside town.
