All very solid recommendations. The Ben Nevis pub is somewhere all visitors to Glasgow should go. I like The Snaffle Bit, which is also in that general area. Possibly a bit less sophisticated than the Ben Nevis are the Scotia Bar and The Clutha Bar, which are both also renowned for their traditional music sessions.

My wife will be devastated when she reads that. We had lunch and a brew there last year with no Sam sighting. I may have been going home alone if he would have dropped in all shiny and sweaty after a run.

It's a slightly weird bit of marketing to use "Sassenach" as a brand name. It's a derogatory term used to describe English people. I've never heard it used in any other way.

Gerry, Diana Gabaldon said that when she first started writing the series, she wasn't as well versed in the Scottish dialect and languages (and probably didn't have resources to hire people like I imagine she does today). She came across the term "Sassenach" as one used for foreigners, so thought it would be an endearing way for Jamie to address Claire, who was from England. She didn't realize that the term was somewhat derogatory and by the time she did, it was too late to change it.

Now, of course, the term means something entirely different to all the fans of the Outlander books and series. So I can definitely understand them using it for a marketing brand.

I've never seen Outlander admittedly, so I didn't fully understand the depth of the reference, but still... kinda obvious it wasn't named by a Scottish native speaker.

Mellis the Cheesemonger is a good pick. I've been stopped at the lights on Great Western Road outside the shop and the aroma of cheese is overwhelming, even from the car. Cheese paradise!

I have to commend the New York Times on the great photography the commissioned for the article too.
