2 days in Skye

Looking for suggestions for best hikes on Skye and driving route plan for two days on Skye. I realize weather may impact plans, but assuming clear skies:). Hoping to make the most of our time on what looks like a beautiful part of Scotland.

We will be driving from Ft William the morning of our first day. I think we will drive over bridge rather than deal with the ferry. (We are riding the Jacobite train the day before).

We have a two night stay and could possibly spend part of a third day on Skye before heading to Inverness.

We love to hike and would hike the Quiraing for sunrise.

We have a car and will be traveling in late May.

We drove over the bridge (from Inverness) to get to Skye, and took the charming, tiny Glenelg ferry to get back from Skye to Fort William. We were staying on the western edge of Skye, so a sunrise Quiraing hike would’ve meant getting up extra early, but plan to drive up the Trotternish peninsula, on Staffin Road (A855), north out of Portree. A couple miles before Staffin, and with daylight, there’s a pull-off to the right to view Kilt Rock. Further on, a little more than a mile past Staffin, take a left onto the road that leads for another couple of miles to the parking area for the Quiraing. When you’ve gotten your hiking fill, or the rain drives you off the rocks as it did us, continue your Trotternish drive. You can backtrack towards Staffin, then continue counterclockwise, around the tip of the peninsula then south, or go west from the trailhead parking lot, cutting across the peninsula without reaching its northernmost point. The town of Uig is a good option for tea or perhaps another beverage of choice.

Another hike we did was starting at Sligachan and going south, in the direction of the extreme Cuillins. We didn’t go that far, and weren’t planning to do any technical climbs. Driving over on the southwest part of Skye offers Carbost, the Fairy Pools, and the Talisker Distillery, as some potential sights.

Have you been to the Walk Highlands website yet? It has an extensive list of hikes on Skye (and other places): https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/

Just remember that the more popular hikes will also be more crowded. Again, I would look at the Walk Highlands site - most of the hikes have reviews, photos, and extensive information about access, parking, and so on.
