I'm trying to book a "hotel" in Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland, but have had no luck w/ the Rick Steves listings. But one of the B&B's owners sent me a list of places and so I checked one out. [Pier Hotel]. But it had some really bad reviews as well as some really good ones. I'm getting a little desperate to book since I need 3 rooms, but I sure don't want to pay the high prices of some of the bigger hotels. I'm wondering if there's a good, reliable source for people's comments about "hotels". Does anybody have any suggestions?

Try sorting comments by date, to pay most attention to the most recent. Read the details to see if they're complaining about something that sounds significant to you; you may not share their priorities or concerns. It sounds like the hotel has done some remodeling, so I would discount the reviews that talked about old, peeling wallpaper, etc. include your specific requests in your email to the hotel.

Have you posted to forums asking about specific hotels? Give price range and what you're looking for and the Rick Steves and TripAdvisor Forums can give some good advice and maybe point you in some new directions.
