We will be in Edinburgh and Glasgow in October and looking for a pub with music, if possible, and one that's not too touristy. If the food were good, we'd plan on lunch or dinner.
We will be in Glasgow on a Saturday (arriving late from Islay)/Sunday/Monday and Edinburgh Tuesday/Weds/Thurs. In Glasgow, we're staying at the Grasshopper Hotel and in Edinburgh, an airbnb just off the Royal Mile. We've both lived in urban settings so not afraid to venture out and explore in big cities. Any recommendations? I've looked at a place in Edinburgh, The Halfway House, and its sister, Fiddlers Arms. In Glasgow, I've looked at Macsorley's and The Horseshoe Bar. ?Yes, no, others?
We are considering a stop at the Oxford Bar in Edinburgh in homage to Ian Rankin, accepting it will be touristy...
Thanks as always!
We went to the Sheep Heid in Edinburgh. I don't know if there's music. There wasn't when we were there, but we were in the dining room, anyway. It is supposed to be the oldest pub in Scotland.
And, to continue the Ian Rankin homage, take in a Raith Rovers match!
No trip to Edinburgh is complete without a visit to Sandy Bell's, a small, authentic, down-to-earth, and world-renown (yet still unpretentious) pub with a long tradition of awesome music. It doesn't get any better than this. Don't miss it, mighty craic!!!
