We will be in Tromso for 2-3 nights prior to a cruise the end of January. Looking for good hotel recommendations. We like to stay in boutique hotels when possible, but open to a nice quality hotel, or anything that someone who has been can recommend. Appreciate any other recommendations for tour companies (whale, aurora, fjords, artic animal, culture), restaurants, bars, in Tromso, as well.

We stayed for 4 nights in Feb 2026 at Home Hotel Aurora in Tromsø. They had a nice breakfast, and there is a coffee/tea time in the afternoon. It is in a good location for walking around Tromso. I am not sure it is really a boutique hotel, but it is a nice hotel. We booked some tours with transportation included with Viator, Tripadvisor, and Get Your Guide. I liked everything we did. We went dog sledding and also saw reindeer/Sami culture(Get Your Guide). We went out three times to see the Northern Lights. The boat trip to see the Northern Lights was a bust for us seeing anything due to the fog/clouds. On the two van trips we did to chase the Northern Lights, we did see the Northern Lights. One of the companies was Northern Lights Tromsø Guaranteed Viewing and Unlimited Mileage by Arctic GM Experiences AS. We booked that trip through TripAdvisor . Northern Light viewing is weather dependent. Wear lots of layers. It is COLD in Tromso and surrounding areas in winter. To see the Northern Lights we were often in heavy snow-laden fields and it was hard to keep your hands and feet warm while standing out there. Have a great trip.
