St petersburg hotel recommendations

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in St Petersburg? We are looking for something comfortable and hopefully less than $150 a night. Of course, we'd love to be well located but don't mind a metro or bus ride. We'll be in St Petersburg 6-7 nights. We've become overwhelmed by looking at Booking.com and would love some personal recommendations. Thanks!

We stayed at the Sokos Hotel Vasilievsky about 2 years ago. Its very nice and the breakfast is superb. The price should be right around your budget. The location is okay, but there must be better situated hotels.

Have a great trip.

Becky, I stayed at Herzen House in August, a wonderful little hotel within walking distance of The Hermitage, St. Isaacs and two blocks from Nevsky Prospect. It was a short walk up Nevsky Prospect to the Church on Spilled Blood, Kazan Cathedral, and the Russian Museum. It was about $140/night and included a satisfying European-style breakfast. It is on the second floor (I believe) with another hotel (Comfort ?) on the first floor. The receptionists all spoke English and were very helpful. I highly recommend it and would stay there again.

Stayed at the Pushka Inn Hotel. Everyone spoke English and was super friendly, very helpful making arrangements for getting to the airport etc. when we left. The hotel is right on a canal and about 500 yards from the back of the Hermitage. Easy walking distance of major sites. They also have a very good (included) breakfast buffet. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. It is a tad more than $150, although they may have a deal for multiple nights and (IMHO) the breakfast buffet offsets the cost (I usually skipped lunch as the buffet was pretty complete.)

I stayed at the Griboyedova 29: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hotels/russia/st-petersburg/3991/

The location is fantastic, right near Nevsky Prospekt, the Metro, lots of restaurants, and many attractions (we walked almost everywhere). The bathrooms are not ensuite, but there are two showers and two toilets for 4 rooms, so we never had to wait. And for St. Petersburg, it was a bargain (we paid €80 for a double). There's a small kitchen, but we got breakfast at a nearby place that had breakfast specials for good prices (sorry, can't remember the name).

We ended up staying at the 3Mosta Hotel which was great, near the Hermitage and the Church of Spilled Blood on a quiet canal. Weven got a room with a balcony for about $112 a night.

We really liked the 3Mosta. The loction and staff were great and our room a decent size and very comfortable. King beds and good bathooms. We didn't eat at the restaurant but there were stores nearby to buy yogurts and Stole bakery nearby for breakfast breads/pasteries. And the price was good (at least in April).
