It is so hard to decide which tour company to choose from SPB or tourbylocals? The price seems to be more or less the same.

WE were very happy with it and will probably book another when we are back in Petersburg this fall. Haven't used the other service though so can't compare.

I have booked a toursbylocals guide based on positive reports on this forum. We have not yet taken the tour, but I was impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the staff in the office ( I made a few phone calls before deciding to book ). The guide has promptly and completely replied to all my emails. I take these all as good indicators. I am looking forward to a good experience.

We've used Toursbylocals in several destinations (including Russia) with great success. Just used a TBL guide this past summer for SPB daytrip to Catherine's Palace in Pushkin. He also included our transportation in his own car, door-to-door, and return. We used TBL several summers back AGAIN in SPB and again to Catherine's Palace.
For Moscow we hooked up with Dan Petrov who we've used on 2 different trips. He's a wonderful, knowledgeable, funny guy who will arrange any particular schedule you'd like. He took us to several off-the-beaten tracks destinations which we really enjoyed. www.waytomoscow.com is his website.
