How can we meet locals in St. Petersburg? We know absolutely no Russian. Is there a bar or English language club where we could chat with Russians. We are curious about so many things and the only way to find out the answers is to actually talk with the Russian people.

Thats a good question. Get an English speaking tour guide when you get there and start from there.

There are English conversation clubs in many cities in non-English speaking countries. Try googling one for Saint Petersburg, Russia. They are usually a mixture of English speaking ex-pats and locals wanting to improve their English skills.

You might also want to check if SPb still has an active chapter of Hash House Harriers. They were never as popular there as they were in Moscow, but worth looking into.
