Kronstadt , Oranienbaum, and Peterhof

We have heard a lot about the Cathedral on Kronstadt and that Palaces at Oranienbaum are near by, has anyone suggestions on how to see those, how to get there etc, would a tour be a good choice and which company etc. Also would a full day at Peterhof be worth it, has anyone taken the bus out to Peterhof ? Those who have taken tours of these sites, what were their experience, what is the approximate cost? Thank you

Last question, leaving for Paris by plane, how long to airport, how early before flight, Taxi ?

Kronstadt is a real eyeful ! You can arrange for a private tour which is an efficient way to see it , but you are likely to see only the cathedral and miss other points of interest on Kotlin Island . We visited last September and did the day on our own using public transportation . If you are interested in that approach , I'll be happy to post the directions and pertinent information . The cathedral is a knockout , and the town is beautiful and bucolic , here is more information - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kronstadt

Go early , and read up on the myriad sights in Kronstadt , print out a map of the town , and having a pocket compass will help keep you correctly oriented on the map . Take the M2 Metro to the " Chernaya Rechka " stop , Here is a map of the St. Petersburg Metro - The M2 is the Blue Line http://www.metro.spb.ru/uploads/img/map/shema_28.12.12c.jpg . When you exit the station , go left out of the main gate and look for the " Marshrutka " mini buses lined up . Cross the street for the ones headed away from the station on your left . You want the one marked K - 405 , the fare is three zones at about py6 ( that's rubles in Cyrillic ) 30 per zone or about py6 90 for the trip to Kronstadt ( about $1.25 ) . once you enter the town , sit close to the driver and ask for " Sobor St Nikolas " That's the cathedral . He will alert you when to get off. The K-405 going back to the Metro leaves from the center of town near The Gostinny Dvor . It resembles the one in St Petersburg , only quite a bit more diminuitive . Do enjoy this , it was a high point for us , Here is St Petersburg transport site as well -http://transport.orgp.spb.ru/Portal/transport/main?lang=en
