Feel Yourself Russian, Folkloric show in St. Petersburg, Russia

We will be in St Petersburg during the first week in June via a cruise ship for 2 days.

Is this show worth the time?

Would you recommend this show over that ballet or circus?

Everybody is different and likes different things. For me, no doubt it would be better than ballet or circus.

Hi,
I've only seen reviews of the show on Cruisecritic - and they are generally quite good. If it's anything like "Kostroma" - another über-touristy show, which I have actually seen, - then I'd take it over bad ballet or bad circus any day, especially if you're on a cruise and looking for some glitzy/kitschy lighthearted entertainment.

If you like ballet, the Mariinsky Ballet (originally known as the Imperial Russian Ballet and also known as the Kirov Ballet) is one of the world's leading ballet companies. I'm only seeing the schedule through May:

Edit to add: a ballet friend of mine who has seen the Mariinsky ballet company in St Petersburg told me it was one of the best performances she's seen anywhere. ever.

Our travel agent recommended Kostroma in Moscow and Feel Yourself Russian in St Petersburg. From what I can see online, it appears that a professional ballet company performs Kostroma, whereas Feel Yourself Russian is more folkloric.

We saw Swan Lake at the Marinsky and it was wonderful. Also, we saw the "Russian Army Show" which included many folk songs. It was equally fantastic as the ballet. I would skip the circus.

geovagriffith, I've been searching to find the "Russian Army Show" that you mention. The closest I've found is the "Russian Cossack Show." Do you happen to still have a link? Or recall the theater at which it was performed?

We have been to St Petersburg twice now. We went to the ballet when it was just the 2 of us and when we were travelling with our kids we did the Folklore show. I liked them both cause they are so different, for my husband he liked the Folklore better. So I guess it all depends on what you like.
One night we did a tour called "date on a roof". We have so much fun with spectacular views of the city. Our local travel agent Anastasia Travel suggested it and I am so happy they did!!! We had a great time on their tours.

CWsocial, Sorry, I don't have a link, we did the show while on a tour with Vantage World Travel in 2011.
I suspect that the Cossack show might be the same or similar.

I've been searching to find the "Russian Army Show...

Geovagriffith, could it have been Alexandrov's Ensemble of the Russian Army?

If that's the case, you lucked out - it's a top quality company. The tickets are not that easy to come by, though.

Geovagriffith, it seems you were very fortunate to see the Alexandrov Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Army. Sadly, on Christmas Day in 2016, the director and 63 other members of the ensemble were killed in a plane crash on their way to entertain Russian troops.

The group has been re-established as the Red Army Choir, which is, from what I can find, a new choir, without the dance ensemble element.
