We booked a flight from St. Petersburg to LA on Aeroflot for only $250 per ticket. Found the fare via Maitrix-IT. We can't choose our seats until 24 hours before we fly, but figure we'll survive what we get, since it's such a great price.
Aeroflot and Turkish Air are similar in some ways....they both have some very inexpensive flight options and, often, long layovers in either Moscow or Istanbul. They both seem to be competing head on with the mainstream carriers (Lufthansa, Air France, United, etc.) for flights from the US to European cities (even at the cost of having to backtrack). My friend from LA flew Aeroflot to Moscow at least twice now - she had positive reviews and no major/minor issues, for what it's worth. In worst case, you'll get separate seats.
I've come across many, many inexpensive Aeroflot flights on ITA-Matrix to a wide range of cities. Last year, the best fare I saw to Moscow (from NYC I believe) was about $450 round trip via Aeroflot. I almost took the bait. When are you going to St. Petersburg?
We're heading to St. Petersburg April of 2017. We are trying to sneak in another trip on our 3 year visa. We have enjoyed previous trips to St. Petersburg and Moscow. We do fly via Moscow to LA, but only have a 2 hour layover in Moscow. We still need to book our flight from Rome to St. Petersburg. I keep checking Matrix for the best airfare and will jump on it when it shows up.
Think of it as a once in a lifetime experience. ..
A couple of my favorite Aeroflot stories
