Previously I had requested advice on getting from St Petersburg to Tallinn. Everyone said to take the train to Helsinki and then the ferry to Tallinn.
We went against advice and took the LuxExpress bus from St. Petersburg to Tallinn. It was a good experience, and it saved us time and transfers with luggage. The bus was very nice with a restroom and wifi. The trip was 6 1/2 hours with no stop for lunch so take food with you. You do have to get out at the Russian border and again at the Estonian border. The bus was also stopped twice in Russia near the border to check passports.
Don't be afraid to take the LuxExpress bus! You can buy your ticket online--in English!
