Some 20 miles southeast of Elko Nevada the Ruby Mountains comprise a sky island, Lamoille. There's a campground, high peaks and a glacier. The altitude had me on edge as we pitched our tent in the campground. After dinner, as dark settled into the canyon, the peak high above was still brightly lit by the settling sun. I was swept up in the grandeur of it all, the strangeness, how unexpected this bit of treasure came to me in the wilds of north Nevada. Don't miss it, it will make your spirit soar.
