Winter on the Coast

I plan to spend 2-3 of the winter months on the coast in Portugal. I will come after spending a month in Tuscany and will return there an additional month in the Spring before come back to the United States. I am traveling by myself and want to rent a private loft or flat or apartment or cottage with kitchen facilities, wifi, a real bed, and a view of the ocean. I would also like to be close to public transportation and/or have access to a scooter, motorbike or bicycle. I'm not especially interested in sight seeing beyond what I will naturally see going about my daily routine. Right now I'm looking at the Foz area. Do you have any suggestions for other areas that meet these needs? What is the best way to find a short term (2-3 month) rental? Thank you!

If you don’t have an EU passport you are generally limited to 90 days in a 180 day period within the Schengen zone. Otherwise you will need to get a visa. Looks like you may go well over the 90 days.

Oh my! You're right! I had planned to go over 90 days. Thank you! How do I apply for a Visa?

Probably should get an Italian long term visa. There will be a bunch of hoops to jump through. The big one is showing that you have enough cash to support yourself during this time and appropriate insurance. Contact a Italian consulate near you or go on their web site. There should be directions for the paper work necessary. Start now, it could take six months or more. And don't even think about doing any type of work, even volunteering, without a proper work visa. A whole different ball game. Start here --- https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/italy-visa/us-citizenship-passport-holders/
