Any recommendations for wine tasting in Porto?
Did you visit wine tasting rooms or did you tour ?
Thanks Renee
If you’ve toured a vineyard in the states or South America and saw the process, tours in Porto will be similar. We did two wine tastings in Porto; Adriano Ramos Pinto and Caves Cálem, but there are plenty of places to choose from along the waterfront.
We had a private guide, Daniel Ferreira, terra d'alma, the day we toured the Douro Valley, which was wonderful, especially being our first time in Porto. He took us to Wine & Soul, https://wineandsoul.com/home/ and Quinta do Noval, https://www.quintadonoval.com/en/wine-shops, where we had wine and porto tastings. We did see many other wine tasting rooms throughout the Douro Valley from our boat ride.
Is Port wine very strong? Do the wineries have any lighter reds or rosés, or whites?
To answer Jerry’s question. Yes, the a good portion of the wineries have regular wines. The reds are not what I would call light, though. In Gaia, several will have regular wines for tasting. The Douro region is one of the most prolific wine growing regions in the country, if not the biggest.
