Are wine shops open on Sundays [April 16, 2023] for purchasing and tasting Madeira Wines and purchasing same by the bottle. If so, where are some of these located or what are the web addresses so I can locate them and find operating hours.
Also, I would be grateful for any suggestions for lunch on Sunday.
Blandy’s is a Madeira wine company that does tours and tastings in Funchal. It’s not too expensive and a good intro into Madeira wine. I’m not certain if they are open on Sunday but you can easily google to find out.
You can also buy wine at any grocery store. The larger supermarkets have a decent selection at good prices.
Thanks for all comments. I looked at the Blandy’s site and, unfortunately, they are closed on Sunday.
If Blandy’s is closed then the cruise terminal shop should be open. If you hire a private guided tour, ask to include a wine purchasing stop. We bought Madeira at a stop just beyond the Valley of the Nuns during a tour on our first trip to Madeira.
No lunch recommendations. We ate lunch, last time, in a local mon ‘n pop bakery restaurant that is certainly closed on Sundays.
