Which train stations in Porto and then Lisbon?

Hello fellow travelers!

We will be traveling to Portugal with RS Tour starting May 14. The tour ends in Porto and flights leaving from Porto to get us back were too convoluted so we booked return from Lisbon.

I have the CP app to make train reservations; however, I need some help figuring out the correct departure and arrival stations to select.

Our last hotel address is:
Rua de Santa Catarina 197
4000-450 Porto

Our Lisbon hotel address is:
Tv. Salitre / Av Liberdade
Lisbon
1269-066

Also is there a big difference between first and second class on the high speed trains? - Other than the price difference :-). We do not mind booking first class at this stage in our lives if the comfort level is worth it. In Spain, the difference from Santiago to Madrid was negligible (faster boarding was the big plus there). At any rate, throwing the question out there, I figure someone here might know.

Thanks!

The AP high speed train runs Porto Campanha - Lisboa Santa Apolonia, under 3 hrs. Cabs are very cheap in Portugal.

There is no big difference in costs for first and second class and both are very inexpensive if booked between 5-30 days in advance. In first class, they serve a meal - I think. I’ve not done first class but friends have told me it’s worth the extra few euros, I plan to do that in the future. First class doesn’t board any quicker than second, but seats are a bit bigger. And, it should be quieter and not as crowded.
Also, if you have the option for Rossio station in Lisbon, it will be quite close to your hotel. But, Santa Apolónia isn’t that far. You will likely see the Oriente option. It will be further than either of the others.

Thank you Kathrynj! I will look for the Rossio station as an option and select it if available. Also thanks for the information on the class rates, I had nothing to compare other than Spain. We will probably do the first class option.

We travelled 2nd class from Lisbon to Porto and back. We really enjoyed the trip. As seniors we were able to purchase our tickets online at a good discount (50%) I think. You'll need your passport info to book and then you need to keep it handy on board as they come and check to confirm you are indeed seniors. Enjoy Portugal.

Thank you Sherry! Good to know 2nd class was comfortable. We will look into the senior discount. I think I read it is 65. The hubs will get it, but I need to wait a couple of years :-(

My wife and i will be returning to Lisbon in October with plans to spend time in Porto. What are the particulars about taking the train , especially getting the senior discount.
Thanks

Yes, flying from Porto to Lisbon takes more time/hassle compared to the train.

You are a 10-minute walk to Sao Bento station down Santa Catarina, then left on de Janeiro, which is a literal "down," as it's fairly steep. Sao Bento will be on your left, and be sure to add a few minutes to appreciate the tiled walls inside. Once at Sao Bento, you are to Campahna in just a few minutes. Sao Bento is also your base for local train excursions, such as the relaxed beach in Espinho (30 min).

We have travelled on the Alfa Pendular and the older trains, which are a bit slower and not nearly as nice, yet still comfortable. In first (conforto) you get newspapers and a variety of coffee (Alfa).

Thank you braddyplex! I see from the CP app that it is not a direct train to Rossio Train Station. Do you know if we have to change trains at each of the two stops? Just curious.

And thanks again! Your reply helped me plan the correct departure station when the date open up in the app.

I'm glad to be of some help :)

Not sure about Rossio station...we went out of the way to Oriente just to see the architecture. I would imagine there is a stop, but i'm not aware of any timetable showing that.

While in Porto, be sure to try the famous Francesinha sandwich...AT LUNCH, otherwise you will go to bed not walking the almost 2,000 calories off haha
