We will be heading to Coimbra soon - two adults and three teenagers. There are two ticket options when visiting the university. Both include the Baroque Library, Royal Palace and St Michael's Chapel. One ticket type then adds the Chemistry Laboratory and Academic museum. The other adds the P.O.RO.S Museum, which looks amazing. Any recommendations between the two ticket types please? Are the Chemistry Lab and Academic Museum worth a visit? Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Not being big museum people, we bought the 13.5€ ticket that includes the chemistry lab. I felt the chemistry lab and academic museum were worth visiting and they don’t take a long time to walk through.
We were there last September and just bought our tickets at the ticket office there since we didn’t know for sure which day we’d visit the university. Entrance to the library was timed. We arrived early to it and since it wasn’t busy we were allowed in with that timed entry group. You’ll be in the library for 30 minutes and no photographs are allowed.
While at the university take the short walk to look at the aqueduct. The new cathedral is also right there.
Finally, if you don’t want to walk up the hill there is a funicular just beyond the central market costing a few Euros per person.
My daughter and I enjoyed the guided tour offered by the university here:

It was definitely worthwhile.
Enjoy your time in beautiful Portugal!
We were in Portugal 5 years ago .Part of the time we stayed in Porto and did a day trip to Coimbra. Since we didn't know what time we would arrive , we just walked up and bought the tickets at the University.. Granted it was pre-Covid but we didn't have a wait. When we went, there wasn't an option to see the P.O.R.O.S. museum. The Chemistry Lab and Science museum is definitely worth it. It includes an exhibit of medical oddities like a 2-headed calf.
