Which neighborhoods are best for lodging?

Hello!

I currently live in Italy and am planning a 10 day trip to Lisbon to explore it as a potential place to live. I would like to get a feel for the city and explore various neighborhoods. This will be my first trip to Portugal. I am traveling solo and will be looking for an Airbnb type lodging, at a reasonable rate (ideally $50 a night or less). A convenient and safe neighborhood is important, as I will likely be out in the evening. Wondering what neighborhoods you would recommend for lodging and if places like Sintra can be easily done in a day?

Thanks so much!

Sintra is easily seen in a day. Take a train there from the Rossio station.

Your budget seems a bit low but you may find some apartment rentals at that rate. Baixa and Chiado are the neighborhoods I recommend. But, if you are looking for a potential neighborhood in which to live, you might want to look at less touristy neighborhoods. Campo do Ourique is a lovely area but might be more expensive than some others.

You might want to look at Casa Sapo and Idealista websites for long term rentals to get an idea of the cost of housing in the less touristy neighborhoods. And, there are a number of towns fairly close to Lisbon that are safe with (sometimes) less expensive housing.

Don’t be concerned about being here solo. Portugal is consistently rated in the top five safest countries in the world.

I agree that $50 a night may be a problem now that Lisbon is so popular.
I recommend looking in the Principe Real area. My wife and i stayed there and are doing it again this April.
It has its own ambience, restaurants, butchers and fish stores yet it is easy to get anywhere in Lisbon from there

have fun,
