Which Month Best For Portugal

Looking for the best month to go. Can take cooler weather but not lots of rain. Anybody have a favorite month to visit this beautiful country? Thanks.

I've been to Portugal in late May to early June, and moved here the middle of October. So my experience is somewhat limited. But I will tell you that May/June was quite warm with zero rain in almost three weeks. The last two weeks of October was warm but there was quite a bit of rain. The month of November has been amazing in Cascais. Mid to high sixties with 1-2 days of occasional light rain.

There is a website Holidayweather.com that gives a monthly breakdown of temperature and rain averages that I've found helpful.

We visited in Mid September and found the weather fantastic. I wore capris much of the time but it was not excessively warm. We had one afternoon of rain in 2 week stay. Beautiful sunshine. Loved Portugal!

You might want to check out the RS Portugal Tour web page where you will find a heading for WEATHER that will give you some idea of the average highs and lows for the year. I live in Hawaii (warm) and spend some time in Seattle (WET) and just signed up for the RS Portugal tour in mid-June.

If our experience from 2008 is any indication, late September to early October is absolutely magical. My memories of the sunsets in Nazare and Lisbon (that's just where we happened to be outdoors at sunset) remind me why we travel. The climate and light at that time of year are very much like California, probably with a nod toward SoCal. We found that the seaside town of Nazare was really cheap too, just after the tourist season. That's probably the last time that we did not book ahead.
